Putting My Big Girl Pants On Today!

Ok, I've been doing model calls and freebies for quite a while now trying to build up my post-college portfolio, and if I'm being honest I think I used to the portfolio building as an excuse to not do much else. I always spoke about wanting to be my own boss and become a professional photographer but was always too scared to do anything about it. Partly because of my age, partly because I've always been told I would never amount to much, and largely because I was just too damn scared to try!

But today I am sitting down and working on my business plan. Not just for the hell of it but because I am going to be putting it forward when I apply for a 12-week government-run mentoring programme aimed at helping new businesses get set up. My stomach is full of butterflies doing summersaults and backward flips just thinking about it, but if I've learned anything this past year it's that life is too short to wait around thinking "I'll do it later, there's time yet."

So, time to put my big girl pants on and get serious about this photography malarky. If I want others to take me seriously I need to start taking myself seriously. I’ve invested too much time and money in myself to get good at what makes my soul sing to just play around. Now it's time to get some return on all that investment.
